I have been busy sewing over the last week...after scrapping so much I felt like a break/needed to tidy up my scrap room so I started sewing up some Moda precuts that I have had ideas for for a while!
I had a layer cake and jelly roll of Hello Betty by Chloe's Closet in the 1930's teal-chocolate-vermillion-grey colourway, with touches of lemon yellow...I love it. I thought about doing something quite elaborate but stuck with a simpler plan. I cut down the 10" squares to 8.5" squares and used the 2.5" strips to surround the squares...I'm sure that the block has a name, but I don't know it LOL! Then sewed them all together to give me a 6' square finished size. The placement is all pretty random and I am thrilled with how it looks.
The fabric range must be fairly old because I cannot find any yardage anywhere online so no extra border for this one, so it will be a bed topper or couch throw for snuggling. I have ordered some of the lemon yellow solid to bind it with. Can't wait to share the finished quilt.
Next I divided my jelly roll of Love U by Deb Strain into a pile of 'boys' and pile of 'girls'...with Sebastian's assistance :) giving me 2 lots of 20 strips.
I sewed these together to gove 5 lots of 4 strips then cut each into 5 8.5" square blocks. Charlotte then laid them out for me...randomly rather than in any traditional rail fence arrangement....and I sewed them back together again.
With a couple of hours work I had 2 cot sized quilts
Boy Version
Girl Version
(Thanks to my assistant Lil for holding them up in random places around the backyard for me this afternoon so that I could try and find a good place to photograph them...she does have cute fingers and toes LOL)
The girl Version will get a 4" border of the red fabric...and the boy version...well that depends on what i can find hiding in my stash...I know I have some 1/2m that will be good for binding but haven't actually checked to see if there is something good for a border yet!
And...finally...to round out my weekend of sewing I spent last night cutting out an Ice Cream sundress for Charlotte as part of the Ice Cream Social...which is a 2 week sew a long where everyone is making something from the Oliver + S Ice Cream Sundress pattern...it is half way through but I only got my pattern on Thursday...and then it took a while for Charlotte and I to agree on fabric...I'm still not 100% sure if it is gooing to look good when it's finished...
In my stash most of my large pieces are Amy Butler and Sandi Henderson prints and they all look fabulous on their own or together sewn up into quilts but trying to sew more than one in a single garment it a little tricky! The pattern has one version with 3 different fabrics and I actually found it easier to find 3 that went together than just 2.
Charlotte got no choice in the end but to just be happy with what I chose because I couldn't get any 2 other patterns to work together...as much as she wanted a dress that was half large print flowers, half strawberries LOL!
I will get on with the stitching tomorrow night. I am having a night on the couch tonight catching up on blogs and (half) watching a movie :)
I plan on being back later in the week with a bit more crafty stuff...scrapping or sewing...well I'm not sure yet :)
Have a great week!
