this is my favourite photo from the day, Charlotte took it, it's totally imperfect but there something about it that captures a moment that is completely perfect
Our 10th wedding anniversary was shortly after we booked our flights so when we started planning our itinerary a re-wedding (as we called it) in Vegas, with Elvis in attendance was right near the top of the must do list.
It also provided a great excuse for a legitimate shopping trip to Tiffany & Co. New York.
Tiffany is open until at least 7pm on weeknights so we popped in close to closing time after a walk in Central Park (can I move to New York tomorrow please?). I had spent a bit of time on the internet choosing which ring I wanted so it was a simple choice between a half and full band of diamonds, I went with the half (strange I know) but I just liked it better.
Woody chose and Atlas ring. Love the concept of eternal time, there is a stunning atlas bangle with with diamonds I saw in Brisbane. That has been added to the Tiffany & Co. wishlist!
So fast forward to Saturday. Woody booked the wedding over the phone (while we were shopping) in the morning for a 2.30pm ceremony. We had chosen Viva Las Vegas Weddings as our chapel of choice when we were still in Australia (they have a fun array of Elvis weddings) and I am glad that we chose them because the people were reallylovely.
We'd had to race back to Circus Circus from the shops, then quickly get dressed...surely one is supposed to take their time a little more and at least shower before their wedding, seriously!...at least the kids clothes got ironed and I had bought some shoes to wear :)
Woody looked at the map, secided it wasn't too far away and when the taxi line was
a) too long and
b) taxis are only allowed to carry a maximum of 5 passengers in Vegas
we decided to hoof it.
Thankfully I'd popped the new shoes in a bag and had my trust Haviana's on my feet otherwise I'm not quite sure how I would have managed.
Woody's distance judgement was seriously off and a touch over half an hour later we arrived, about 15 minutes late for our allocated 2.30pm timeslot, and somewhat cold and windblown because there weather was seriously nutty! The upside of the walk is that it took us past many many sleazy looking places (both motels and wedding chapels) so by the time we got there we knew it was worth the walk.
Anyway...this quickie Vegas wedding story is getting long and I'm sure all you want to see is the photos right?
The nice people at Viva Las Vegas Weddings reshuffled us into the Doo Wop Diner (which is where I'd wanted to have the ceremony in the first place)...we took our places, seated the children in the awesome retro diner chairs, handed the camera to Charlotte (she has decided that she wants to be a world famous photographer, for now anyway, but I'm more than happy to indulge it). Lil posed with my yellow bouquet.
...with Elvis and photographer in place we were rewedded quick as a flash...There were lots and lots of headless shots, which made me giggle...but Charlotte did manage a few that weren't too bad ;)
We finished up with plenty of posed photos (sorry can't use your own camera for those, you'll have to buy them from us) and Elvis turned it on with Viva Las Vegas.
Thankfully (for a change) Charlotte wasn't listening and managed to sneak in one of the 'not allowed' shots after the ceremony
With 4pm drawing closer, and the Mandalay Bay at completely the other end of Las Vegas Boulevard we decided to treat ourselves and the kids to a Limo ride (which ironically cost less than 2 taxis would have!) so we made it in plenty of time for The Lion King.
My re-wedding dress was seriously short, and my legs like they were in a little need of some colour. The dress was from Modcloth and I am looking forward to having an excuse to wear it again, short though it may be!
We finished up our 're-wedding' day with dinner at Mandalay Bay (it was seriously delicious food!) before heading back to Circus Circus...this time in 2 taxis!
(they did, of course, spell my name incorrectly on the sign at first...Patun)
Hope that you have had a lovely weekend. Lots more USA posts planned for this week.
