Small Style 23 - Our New York Rainbow

It's been ages since my last Small Style post.  Ever since we got back from our trip to the US the kids have been rugged up for winter and haven't had many particularly stylish days.

However, I have been wanting to post about our little new york rainbow ever since that day back at the end of May.  Have I mentioned how much I miss New York and want to go back?

It was the Thursday, a completely gorgeous end of spring kind of sunshiny day and the kids had dressed themselves.  We headed downtown on the subway, we were heading out on the Staten Island ferry to get another look at the Statue of Liberty, as we emerged at Battery Park I noticed that the kids had dressed themselves collectively like a rainbow.

It made me smile.

We have had some unseasonally warm weather here this week, I know it will be sad when it drops back down to wintery cold again tomorrow.  Thankfully those warm spring days will be just around the corner...I'm looking forward to unpacking the suitcase of new warm weather clothes we brought home but haven't seen the light of day yet.

Which do you prefer rugging up and snuggling on cold winter days, enjoying the summer heat or those lovely in between days you get in Spring and Autumn?  T

hose in between days are defintely my favourite, warm enough for short sleeves and jeans during the day but still cool enough for the doon at night.  I love opening up the house and letting the breeze blow through.  It makes me happy in my heart.

Who are you and what did you do with my babies? - Small Style 13

I had something else entirely in mind for small style this week until I started looking through my photos from the week and it really struck me how much Sebastian and Jasmine have grown up over the last month.

Sebastian has gone from looking like a new to kindy four year old boy to a little guy who is now half way to five and looking more and more like a ready for school boy everyday.  He has learned so much this year and his appetite for gaining more knowledge has expanded unbelieveably.  I suspect he is growing too because he keeps tripping over himself :)

Steven picked out this shirt for him from Old Navy.

It dawned on me yesterday how appropriate it is, it just needs an extra line at the bottom saying 'it was J'.  He blames EVERYTHING on her, even if she was in the other room and nowhere near the scene of the crime.  Although the other day he did blame a fart on Steven without missing a beat (although the offending noise/smell had clearly come from him).  Love how there are so many fun T's around for boys that often speak volumes about their personalities (especially when they choose them themselves).

He's wearing his polka shorts that I nabbed for $20...love the combination of tweed and grey jersey.  We have fallen for Old Navy a bit, there will definitely be a big stock up in California somewhere next week before we head home!

J has changed an awful lot too, but that hasn't taken me quite so by surprise as the changes in Sebastian.  Being around all of us full time for the best part of 6 weeks I expected to see Jasmine have a huge increase in speech and vocabulary.

but she too is looking a whole world more grown up than when we left.  She is this crazy, wild, independent spirit (kind of like her hair I guess).  She has especially loved all the museums we have visited and has even started asking questions and wanting to stop and look at everything in detail (much like everyone else). 

She has definite likes and dislikes and she knows what she wants.  She has fallen for Mickey...if any of my US readers can help me out with where I might be able to find some Mickey knickers I would be most appreciative...she refuses to wear any of the pooh bear nappies we have left from Australia and will only wear Mickey ones (prefers the Mickey and Minnie actually if you don't mind) so I figure some Mickey knickers will be helpful with toilet training when we get home :)

We hung out in Sheep Meadow, Central Park for about 30 (fairly) blissful minutes on Tuesday afternoon and she took great joy in running around and being free (and pulling up grass).

She is wearing one of my most favourite things that she owns, a Sandi Henderson Saturday Market skirt that I finished making earlier in the year.  These skirts can be a bit laborious to sew but the end result is totally worth it (Lil has a matching one, I'm not into matching outfits on my kids but I love the primary colours of this fabric range).

Perhaps next week I'll remember what I had in mind for this week.  I love playing along with Morgan each week.  I love being more creative with what they are wearning and it is a good reminder to have some fun taking photos of them each week.  Looking forward to having more time to see what everyone else is posting when I get home from our travels next month!

Small Style 12 - New Kicks

I knew sneakers were cheaper in the US compared to Australia but wasn't expecting them to be half the price...dangerous! With a somewhat repetitive wardrobe out of our suitcases I thought I'd talk about the kids new kicks for this week's Small Style.

Sebastian's only sneakers were falling apart so getting him new ones was a fairly high priority.  We went in to get a new pair for him and walked out with new pairs for all the kids.

J got Nike Air Jordans, sooo cute

Sebastian's are a fairly plain pair of black Fila lace ups, we'll go home with more pairs and larger sizes for him because he is TOUGH on them.

Charlotte got light up flashing Skechers.  When I spotted them on another child our first day at Disney I knew we would be coming home with at least one pair.

Lil has white and purple Pumas, they looked pretty smart bright white and new out of the box, however, on Lil nothing stays looking new for very long.

I've just gotten back from a 3 hour shopping tour taking in SoHo and NoLIta with some loevly new things for me and a tonne of inspiration for Green Dandelion. 

While I was shopping with Lil Steven took the other three to Childrens Museum of the Arts.  They had a fantastic time painting and drawing, performing and playing.

We finished it off with Pizza in Little Italy, bringing enough home for a second meal.

Tonight will be our first visit to Yankee Stadium.

Thoroughly enjoying ourselves in NYC so far.  I can see why most people fall in love and why so many people can go without need to leave Manhattan.
